Analytics comparisons/OnRamp vs Aptabase

An Aptabase alternative when you need funnels and revenue

Aptabase is open-source, anonymous analytics for apps on almost every platform. OnRamp is for when you need to answer growth questions: which step loses users, which campaign pays back, and how much revenue each channel brings.

The short answer

Pick the one that fits your product

Choose OnRamp when

You want onboarding funnels, retention cohorts, per-user journeys, revenue and ad spend with ROAS for a mobile app or web product.

Choose Aptabase when

You want simple, fully anonymous event analytics, open source you can self-host, or support for desktop and game engines like Electron, Tauri, Unity and Godot.

What Aptabase does well

Aptabase is open-source analytics for mobile, desktop and web apps. The server is AGPL-3.0 and the SDKs are MIT, with 17 SDKs including Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, React Native, Electron, Tauri, .NET MAUI, Unity, Unreal and Godot. It anonymizes everything, with daily-rotating hashes, and offers dashboards, a live view, session timelines, CSV export, EU or US data residency and an MCP server. The free plan includes 20,000 events per month, and paid plans start at $10/mo for 200,000.

OnRamp vs Aptabase, side by side

Aptabase comes out ahead on 4 of these, OnRamp on 5, and the rest are a tie. “Not listed” means we couldn't find it on Aptabase's site when we checked in September 2026.

Funnels

From “what happened” to “where did they quit”

Aptabase is built for counting events anonymously, which keeps it simple and private. We couldn’t find funnels or retention cohorts in its feature and pricing pages.

OnRamp is built around funnels. Mark the steps that matter with OnRamp.step(), and the funnel shows who made it, who dropped, and how long each step took. Retention cohorts then show whether the users who finished onboarding kept coming back.

Revenue and ad spend

Connect the money

OnRamp connects revenue from Stripe, RevenueCat, Paddle or Lemon Squeezy and spend from Google Ads, Apple Search Ads, Meta Ads and TikTok Ads. Each campaign shows visitors, revenue and net ROAS.

User journeys

Follow one user when the numbers aren’t enough

Aptabase sessions are deliberately anonymous and rotate daily. OnRamp keeps a stable device ID, so you can open one user and read every session: screens, milestones, idle time, app version and where they stopped in each funnel.

Setup

Set up by your coding agent, or by hand

OnRamp is agent-first. The setup page gives you one prompt for Claude Code, Cursor or any coding agent. It handles CLI authorization, SDK integration, milestone selection, funnel configuration and verification, then you watch “Waiting for your first event…” turn into “First event received”.

By hand it’s one call per step: OnRamp.init() once, then OnRamp.step('account_created') wherever a milestone happens. The same data is available to agents afterwards through the OnRamp CLI and MCP server.

When Aptabase is the better choice

  • You want open source you can self-host.
  • You ship desktop apps or games (Electron, Tauri, Unity, Unreal, Godot).
  • Fully anonymous analytics is a hard requirement.
  • You want the lowest price per event, or a free plan for a side project.

When OnRamp is the better Aptabase alternative

  • You need funnels and retention cohorts, not just event counts.
  • You want revenue and ad spend with net ROAS per campaign.
  • You debug onboarding by reading individual user journeys.
  • You want your coding agent to set everything up from one prompt.

Frequently asked questions

Does Aptabase have funnels?

We couldn’t find funnels or retention cohorts in Aptabase’s feature and pricing pages (checked September 2026). It focuses on anonymous event analytics with dashboards, a live view and session timelines. OnRamp is built around funnels and retention.

Can I self-host OnRamp like Aptabase?

No. OnRamp is a hosted service in the EU (Netherlands). Aptabase’s server is open source under AGPL-3.0 and can be self-hosted.

Which is cheaper?
